Our Denver7 reporters, Connor Long and Hanna Atkinson recently hit the basketball court to meet some great Special Olympics Colorado Unified athletes and coaches.
Mike Reno is an Overland High School Senior and plays on the Unified team at Overland High School.
This is Mike’s first year working with athletes with intellectual disabilities. We asked him what he enjoys most.
“Just seeing them be happy, that’s why I’m doing it," said Reno.
Reno enjoys basketball, but that’s not the main reason he’s on the court.
“If you don’t want to take sports too seriously and do it for fun, I would do this, it’s amazing," he said.
Even though this his first year playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities, he tells us he’s already learned so much.
He said no one looks at each other different and it’s an amazing group to be around.
You can watch more of Hanna and Connor’s stories every Saturday morning on Denver7. If you have a story idea for them, please send it to email@example.com .
