DENVER — Last year, more than 2,500 runners and walkers united in Denver’s City Park for the 10th annual Jodi’s Race for Awareness. This year, registrants will be running and walking in their neighborhoods, on local trails and even on treadmills but will still be united in their support for the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Jodi’s Race Virtual Dash continues the important traditions established 11 years ago when Jodi Brammeier, a young mother diagnosed with ovarian cancer, created the Race to raise awareness of the disease, which is the deadliest gynecologic cancer. Denver7 is a proud sponsor of Jodi’s Race for Awareness, the second largest ovarian cancer run/walk in the country.

Jodi’s Race is more than just a run or walk. It’s a celebration of community and a way to honor survivors and caregivers and to memorialize those we’ve lost. Jodi’s Race Virtual Dash builds on that community with three different Race packages:

· Survivors: Receive a special teal survivor Race shirt, insulated lunch pack, beads for each year since diagnosis, bubbles, a survivor crown craft, temporary tattoos and more.
· Participants: Receive a Race shirt, bubbles, temporary tattoos and kids get a “color your own” t-shirt.
· Remembrance: Receive a Race shirt and items to honor and memorialize their loved one including flower seeds, a candle and a bell with instructions on how to host a Teal Bell commemoration ceremony.

All packages offer a furry friend option with a teal bandana for your beloved pet. There will also be a live Jodi’s Race Virtual Dash Watch Party hosted by Denver7’s Jaclyn Allen on Facebook on Saturday, June 13.

All money raised from Jodi's Race remains in Colorado and funds Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance programs that support women with ovarian cancer, including COCA Cares Financial Assistance, Nicki's Circle Support Groups, the Ovarian Cancer Resource Guide, Comfort Kits for the newly diagnosed, Carol’s Wish Financial Advocates, an annual Raise Awareness campaign, and Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women’s Lives®, a national program of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OFRFA).

Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer in females in the United States and the deadliest gynecologic cancer. An annual gynecological exam does not check for this cancer and there is no specific screening test for ovarian cancer, so being able to recognize the symptoms, leading to early detection, is critical to saving lives. The most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, and urinary urgency or frequency.
