When the 20th Anniversary Denver Christkindl Market opens to the public on Nov. 20 at its new spacious, open-air location along the center promenade of Civic Center Park, organizers believe it provides a sparkle of hope during a very different holiday season. Denver7 is a proud sponsor of the Denver Christkindl Market.

Working closely with the City & County of Denver as well as the Civic Center Conservancy for the past six months, the German American Chamber of Commerce – Colorado Chapter has taken bold and creative steps to accommodate social distancing and many other health guidelines, in order to open Colorado’s only authentic German holiday market from Nov. 20 through Dec. 23, 2020.

Celebrating two decades in Downtown Denver, this outdoor, pop-up cultural event offers guests an opportunity to experience the joy of a European village festively decorated for the holiday season. Guests can safely shop for unique, finely crafted artisan gifts and holiday treats sold by small, independent Coloradan, European and international merchants in charming wooden huts.

Further, attendees can savor the season as they enjoy authentic Glühwein (mulled spiced wine), authentic German Biers, hot chocolate, or liqueur. Tasty traditional family recipes from numerous regions across Europe are available to delight their pallets with savory and sweet treats including: Bavarian-style pretzels, fresh smoked salmon, Knödel, Goulasch, Nürnberger Sausages as well as handmade, small-batch pastries, caramels and European chocolates

The new location at Civic Center Park located at 101 West 14th Ave. in Denver, adjacent to the colorfully lit City and County of Denver Building, provides ample space to create two different access-controlled areas separated by a tunnel of lights serving as a buffer zone. (Capacities of each area will be based on current guidelines from the State of Colorado and the Department of Health.) The enclosed Festival Hall tent from past years has been replaced by an open-air canopy of lights with entertainment on the Greek Amphitheater stage. Per state guidelines, masks will always be required at the market.

Happy Haynes, executive director of Denver Parks & Recreation, expressed her thoughts about the efforts to host the Denver Christkindl Market in 2020. “In these times of uncertainty, it will be a welcome symbol of hope. We are doing everything we can at the city level to hold things steady, but we cannot control the potential of a move to a more restrictive public health environment. Still, I have hope that the extraordinary planning and precautions you have taken will carry through these challenges. We will continue to be your partners as we all navigate through the season. Best wishes!”
