Mystics Deal McWilliams-Franklin To Shock

(Sports Network) - The Washington Mystics dealt forward Taj McWilliams-Franklin to the Detroit Shock Tuesday in exchange for forwards Tasha Humphrey and Shay Murphy.

The Mystics also obtained a second-round pick in the 2009 draft, but lose the services of McWilliams-Franklin, who averaged 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 26 games this season, her first with the club.

In 202 career games with Connecticut, Los Angeles and Washington, McWilliams- Franklin has compiled averages of 12.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing in her five-year career.

Humphrey was the 11th overall selection in the 2008 draft, as the Georgia product logged 7.3 points and 2.9 caroms in less than 14 minutes per game with the Shock this season.

Murphy, a second-year player out of the University of Southern California, has recorded 4.3 points and 2.7 boards an outing in 47 career games.

"Tasha is a versatile rookie post that can shoot the three and score in a variety of ways. Her game resembles that of Tina Thompson and she has the potential to develop into one of the best power forwards in the league," Mystics general manager Linda Hargrove said. "Shay is a high-energy second year player who works hard on the defensive end."

In a corresponding move, Washington waived forward Kendra Wecker.
