SURPRISE, Az -
Juan Nicasio pitched out of trouble in much of his five-inning outing, allowing only Mike Moustakas' home run and leading the Colorado Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
Nicasio, who finished the past two seasons on the disabled list, threw 46 strikes in 80 pitches, walking three and striking out four. He gave up three hits and pitched out of jams in the fourth and fifth innings with two runners on and one out.
Yorvit Torrealba and D.J. LeMahieu had run-scoring singles in the Rockies' three-run fifth inning. The other run scored on two-time Gold Glove left fielder Alex Gordon's throwing error.
Jeremy Guthrie, who started last season 3-9 with a 6.35 ERA with the Rockies before being traded July 20 to the Royals, allowed four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and a walk in six innings.
