THOMSON, Ga - Federal air safety officials say a small private jet carrying a surgeon and members of his clinic staff aborted its landing at a Georgia airport last night then hit a utility pole and crashed in a flaming wreck.

The crash killed five people onboard the plane and injured two.

The business jet carrying five staff members of the Vein Guys clinic of vascular medicine specialists in Augusta was attempting to land at Thomson-McDuffie Regional Airport about 30 miles west of Augusta, Ga.

The five dead have not been identified.

National Transportation Safety Board member Robert Sumwalt says leaking fuel ignited when the plane hit the 60-foot concrete pole. The collision sheared off the plane's left wing. Sumwalt says the plane was "almost completely destroyed by fire" and investigators found wreckage strewn over 100 yards.

The NTSB has recovered video footage from an airport security camera that it said will help with the investigation.
