Man Finds Heart-Shaped Meteorite In Greeley

Experts Say Carlos Martinez' Rock Is Iron Meteorite

A man in Greeley believes a rock he found in his back yard is a meteorite.

The rock is black, four inches across and shaped like a heart, Carlos Martinez told the Greeley Tribune.

The newspaper said that according to University of Northern Colorado professor Bob Brunswig, the black rock is an iron meteorite, heavily burned, which likely broke off a larger meteor and sped through the Earth’s atmosphere to Martinez’s yard.

"Because it wasn’t buried like most meteorites," Brunswig said, "That probably means it hit within the past year."
