COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Fort Carson soldier is arrested in a woman's slaying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs.

A woman was found dead inside a room around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Scanner traffic indicated that a man, who is now in North Carolina, called his friends in Colorado Springs and told them that his girlfriend was dead in a room at the hotel, according to KRDO. Those friends reported the information to police.

Police in Greenville, N.C.  later said  that a Fort Carson soldier was arrested there in connection with the Colorado Springs slaying.   They identified him as 24-year-old Montrell Lamar Anderson Mayo.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death but police said the woman was apparently killed Thursday or Friday.

There does not appear to be a threat to any guests or residents in the nearby area, police said.
