Wits End Comedy Club in Westminster closing after 22 years

WESTMINSTER, Colo. - Wits End Comedy Club is closing after 22 years in Colorado.

Two women, Cathy Cooke and Carol McKelvey, opened the club in Westminster in 1991. Over the years the ladies sold the business and it moved locations, but Wits End's website calls the comedy club the second oldest live stand-up comedy show in the Denver/Boulder metro area.

"The club has come such a long way since we were approached by the property owners two years ago to try to pull it out of the financial hole it was in," said John Bauers, current Wits End owner. "And the progress has been steady, but just not fast enough to make keeping it open feasible."

"It's been fun," one long-time employee told 7NEWS. "It was part of my life."

Club owners said the club, located at 92nd & Harlan in Westminster, will host its final shows this Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
