Teenage girl fights off man who enters her Jefferson County home and tries to sexually assault her

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Deputies are trying to find a man who walked into a Jefferson County apartment Thursday afternoon and tried to sexually assault a teenage girl who was home alone.

It happened Thursday around 3:40 p.m. at the Tanamera Apartment Complex near West Bowles Avenue and South Simms Street.

Investigators said the teen was home alone when the man walked in through an unlocked door in broad daylight.

"[It was] very brazen.  That's why we're very concerned about this guy, we wanna get him," said Jefferson County Public Information Officer, Mark Techmeyer.

Techmeyer said the man tried to rape her but the teenager gave him the fight of her life.

"She was brave, tenacious, strong and she wasn't having any of it.  She fought back really hard.  It was a battle and he finally left," Techmeyer said.

Deputies are now looking for a 1990 white Jeep Cherokee with running boards.

"I've been out and about a lot and have not seen him here," said neighbor, Linda Perlman as she looked at the suspect's sketch.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the girl was targeted or if the man was randomly trying doors.  Neighbors said they heard nothing but are not taking any chances.

"I'm gonna get a gun, that's too close, it's scary," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

The girl was able to fight off her attacker but suffered non-life threatening injuries in the process, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

Police are now searching for the attacker, described as a bald black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and brown eyes.

The sheriff's office on Friday released a sketch of the man and a picture of a similar vehicle without its the running boards.
