JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A man suspected in the attempted sexual assault of a Jefferson County teen has been arrested, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Xavier Sebastian McDaniel, 20, allegedly entered an apartment in the Tanamera Apartment Complex near S. Simms St. and W. Bowles Ave. around 3:40 p.m. Thursday and attempted to sexually assault a teenage girl who lives in the apartment.
Investigators said the teen was home alone when the man walked in through an unlocked door in broad daylight.
Jefferson County Public Information Officer Mark Techmeyer said the man tried to rape her but the teenager gave him the fight of her life, suffering non-life threatening injuries in the process.
"She was brave, tenacious, strong and she wasn't having any of it. She fought back really hard. It was a battle and he finally left," Techmeyer said.
After the girl reportedly fought off her attacker, she saw the suspect drive away in a 1990’s model white Jeep Cherokee.
Investigators found the vehicle in the same apartment complex where the attack happened. McDaniel also lived in that apartment complex, investigators say.
Investigators are still trying to determine if the girl was targeted or if the man was randomly trying doors.
McDaniel was arrested at his job in Douglas County. Investigators have not said where he was working.
McDaniel is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of first degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury.
He is scheduled to appear in court Monday at 10 a.m.
