Driver arrested after deadly hit-&-run crash that closed I-225 from I-70 to Colfax

DENVER - Southbound Interstate 225 in Aurora has reopened from Interstate 70 to Colfax after a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday night, authorities say.

Aurora police said a man was walking on the highway when a vehicle hit him but did not stop. This occurred around 8:45 p.m. on I-225 near I-70 and Smith Road.

An Aurora police officer who was driving behind that vehicle came upon the accident seconds later and chased the driver.

Investigators identified the driver as Tashima Littleton, of Denver. She was eventually pulled over and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Littleton had a passenger in her car, but that person was not detained.

The man who was struck on the highway  was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police do not know why he was walking on the highway.  Police dispatchers had received several 911 calls of a person walking on I-225 before the crash occurred, said Aurora police Lt. Jeff Turner.

The highway was closed for several hours.
