DENVER - A 17-year-old male was shot by police after threatening officers with two knives on Monday evening, Denver police say.
The teen was transported to Denver Health Medical Center in critical, but stable condition, police said via Twitter.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
Police received a call at 6:20 p.m. about a possible stabbing in the area of 3920 Wolff St. , Chief Robert White said. Officers found a man sitting in a yard with two knives.
"After several commands to drop the knives, the officers felt threatened -- at which time they fired several shots, striking the victim," White said.
Police never found a stabbing victim.
The 17-year-old male was conscious while being taken to the hospital, White said.
White said the officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
