Murder charges expected in death of Anthony Benavidez, victim stabbed during fight in Thornton

THORNTON, Colo. - Police have identified the teenager who died after a fight in Thornton early Saturday morning.

Thornton Police said Anthony Benavidez, 18, was attacked with a knife.

Officers said when they arrived in the 4200 block of E. 100th Ave., the other juvenile males involved in the fight had fled the scene. Benavidez was left behind, with a serious throat injury, investigators said.

He died from his injuries.

Police said they've a taken a 17-year-old Thornton boy into custody. Officers expect him to be charged with murder in the first degree.

The motive for the altercation is still being investigated, police said.
