Falcon school district moves to fire Tonya Harris

FALCON, Colo. - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a 34-year-old school district employee suspected of having sex with a 17-year-old boy at a party last year has been arrested.
Deputies arrested Tonya Harris, 34, on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both felonies, according to a release issued by the sheriff's office.
Harris works in food service for Falcon School District 49.
A tip to from the Safe2Tell line on Aug. 16 led deputies to Harris, who is accused of having sex with the boy in November, according to the release. Due to a lack of leads at the time, the case was inactivated until the latest tip.
She was booked into the El Paso County Jail and released on a $3,000 bond.
A statement from the Falcon School District said efforts to terminate Harris' employment are underway.
Harris was placed on administrative leave when district leadership received the initial allegations. The district fully cooperated with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office in all investigations. At the conclusion of this investigation, the administrative recommendation is to terminate Harris' employment with the district.
The Falcon School District 49 Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting to terminate Harris' employment.
The safety of students is the District 49's top priority. Any additional information on this case should be reported directly to law enforcement.
