Hail, sleet, rain hit cities around the Denver metro area Monday morning

Sleet and hail are hitting cities around the metro area this morning.

Small hail and graupel started falling in Golden, Arvada, Broomfield, Thornton, Boulder and Louisville at about 8 a.m.

Viewers in Frederick and Greeley reported seeing hail, sleet, rain and thunder.

Denver Airport officials reported rain and lightning moving into the area at 8:30 a.m. Officials recommended travelers check their flight status with their airline.

"There is a strong line from I-25 and Hampden, down through Greenwood Village, toward Parker," 7NEWS Weather Anchor Dayle Cedars said at 8:40 a.m.

Most of the heavy rain and hail had pushed east of the metro area by 9:15 a.m., Cedars reported.  A line of storm cells was moving along 470 up toward Bennett.

"This is moving pretty quick, so it will drop and then push out," Cedars said. "But more will follow."

A new storm will drift into the region Thursday night and Friday with more mountain snow and a small chance for rain and snow for the Denver area.
