DENVER - Snowy conditions and several accidents caused closures on Interstate 70 in the mountains on Thursday afternoon.
Eastbound I-70 had been closed for nearly five hours in Vail because of a crash on a snowy Vail Pass , according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. CDOT said that closure began at 2:19 p.m. and the highway reopened about 7:15 p.m.
Eastbound I-70 at Silverthorne reopened at 5:42 p.m. after crews cleared multiple disabled vehicles, CDOT said.
U.S. 6 is closed in both directions at Loveland Pass because of adverse weather conditions. The closure began at 2:15 p.m. and there is no estimated time of reopening.
Westbound I-70 reopened at the Eisenhower Tunnel at 3:27 p.m. at after a 2 1/2 hour closure because of an accident. CDOT warned travelers to expect extremely heavy traffic and delays through the area until backed-up vehicles clear.
