Colorado Springs motorcyclist thrown, killed in single-vehicle crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash when he was thrown from the bike Saturday evening.

Colorado Springs police responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash around 8 p.m. Responders found that a lone motorcyclist had been thrown off of his bike, landing in the driveway of a residence on the 2000 block of Carmel Drive.

The rider had died by the time medical crews arrived.

Investigators determined that the rider had been heading northbound on Carmel Drive and was thrown from his motorcycle when he tried to make a slight right hand turn. The rider dropped the bike, then struck the curb. It is not known if alcohol was involved.

Police are still investigating the incident. Carmel Drive remained closed from 8 p.m. to about 11 p.m.

Police have not released the name of the motorcyclist.
