Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to unveil new budget

DENVER - Gov. John Hickenlooper is scheduled to release his proposed Colorado budget for next year.

The proposal being unveiled Friday could include costs from last month's floods. Colorado's finances are on the upswing, but the state faces some hefty bills repairing roads and bridges damaged during the floods.

The budget won't account for increased taxes that are pending before voters next week. The governor's chief budget analyst says the proposal will be changed later if voters approve a new tax on marijuana or an income tax hike aimed at schools.

The governor's budget proposal is just a first step. Lawmakers will spend months next year revising the budget Hickenlooper submits.
