Armed man shot and killed by Thornton police

THORNTON, Colo. - Thornton police shot and killed a man Friday night they said was armed with a knife and baseball bat.
The shooting happened at 98th Avenue and Josephine Street at about 7:30 p.m.
Officers were called to the area on a report of a drunk man threatening people at a party with a baseball bat. When officers arrived, they found he was standing on the front porch of a home, armed with a baseball bat and a knife.
Police spokesman Officer Matt Barnes said the man refused to put the knife and bat down and officers tried to Tase him. He was shot when he walked toward police with the weapons, Barnes said.
Neighbors told 7NEWS said they heard four to six gunshots.
The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police said they may have had an encounter with the same person Thursday night.
The suspect’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The Adams County Coroners Office will determine the manner and cause of death.
One officer has been placed on paid administration leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Adams County Critical Incident Team.
