Adams County deputy Jose Guadalupe Luna arrested on DUI charge in Thornton

THORNTON, Colo. - Officers arrested an Adams County sheriff's deputy last month on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he drove into a median, hit two trees and got stuck, according to Thornton police.

Police spokesman Matt Barnes told 7NEWS the preliminary investigation indicated that Jose Guadalupe Luna, 39, attempted to make a left turn from Lafayette Street, where no left turn is allowed, onto eastbound 120th Avenue.

Luna went into the median, hit two trees and got his vehicle high-centered on one of the trees, Barnes said.

Luna was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, DUI per se and careless driving. DUI per se means the breathalyzer test or blood test at the time of arrest recorded the suspect's blood alcohol count to be above the legal limit of 0.08.

The incident happened just before midnight on March 28. The information about his arrest was released Monday after 7NEWS called to follow up on a news tip.

Luna lives 1.3 miles from the place where he was arrested.

Luna has served as a patrol deputy for 13 years. He has been transferred to the jail division, so he is not driving a work vehicle during the investigation.
