FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Through a forensic examination, the Larimer County Coroner identified a body found in a field of flood debris and determined the death was caused by drowning.
Patricia Goodwine, 60, was previously classified as "missing, presumed dead" because her home washed away when the Big Thompson River flooded her home in the Cedar Cove area. Her body was discovered Monday afternoon by two contractors working for the Environmental Protection Agency in a debris field located in the 7000-block of Highway 34, west of Loveland.
The coroner determined that Goodwine's death was an accident, caused through asphyxia by drowning.
This confirmation brings the total number of fatalities in the September flooding to nine, including one other in Larimer County, Four in Boulder County, two in El Paso County and one in Clear Creek County.
