The monsoon season may be arriving slightly early in Colorado.

7NEWS Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson said there is a chance of thunderstorms each day for the next seven days.

Moisture coming up from the south is going to bring us the early monsoon moisture, Nelson said.

By the weekend, temperatures will fall in the low to mid-80s.

"A refreshing change after the hottest June on record," Nelson said

The monsoon is caused by a shift in wind patterns which funnels more moisture from the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of California to the Southwest. Monsoon season typically starts in the second week of July and continues through the end of August but can persist as late as October.
