Tornado behind damage at Douglas County's Devil's Head campground

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - A tornado is behind the destruction at the Devil's Head campground.

The National Weather Service made the confirmation Wednesday evening.

Officials determined an EF1 tornado touched down between 2:05 p.m and 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

It created a path of destruction 100 yards wide and 500 yards long.

Officials say the tornado damaged the Devil's Head campground and picnic grounds in Pike National Forest and damaged the trail to the Fire Lookout Tower. The area in Douglas County is closed until further notice for safety reasons. There isn't an estimated time for reopening.

Crews are removing downed trees over six acres.

No injuries were reported.
