Get out those fishing poles and the waders for a trip to the high country, as 7NEWS Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson and his wife, Cindy, take you for a fly fishing lesson.Colorado certainly has thousands of miles of gorgeous streams. While many explore them with rod and reel, flyfishing is one of our great sports enjoyed by sportsman and increasingly, sportswomen."Women are a natural to flyfishing," said Jeff Ehlert with the Grand County Fishing Company. "They seem to pick it up a lot quicker than men. They concentrate more on the timing. Where guys with baseball and stuff, if you want to hit it harder, you swing harder. So guys, they try and power it, more of a timing thing -- a finesse thing, than power with a fly rod."
"Fly cast and everything feels real awkward to someone who has done some spin fishing when they start. Give it some time and it will feel more natural," said Ehlert.Once you catch a fish, it is easy to release it back into the water."You want to point him upstream. Kinda cradle him and let him go when he feels like he's good and strong," said Elhert."I think this is addictive – I think this is very addictive, because honestly, I could do this every weekend," said Cindy Nelson. "I also think if you have kids, and you get alone out here -- you know how cool that would be? I should have done this when I had little ones."To go fishing with the Grand County Fishing company, call 970-726-5231 or visit their web site.
