UPDATED: 1:39 am MST November 30, 2005

Once again the Caribbean Sea grew active and gave birth to another tropical system, with a tropical depression forming on October 26th about 170 miles east of Costa Rica. By October 27th, Tropical Storm Beta was churning the waters of the southwest Caribbean.

By the 29th, Beta became a hurricane near the Island of Providencia.

Beta made a westward turn and strengthened into a category 3 storm by the 30th. Later that day, Beta reached the coast of Nicaragua near the town of La Barra. It was a category two at the time of landfall.

Significant wind damage and flooding was reported from the central Nicaraguan coast to Honduras.
