A tropical wave moving east of Barbados developed into a tropical depression on September 17th. Later that day forecasters had Tropical Storm Philippe on their hands.

By the 19th, Philippe's winds increased to 80 MPH, making it a hurricane.

Philippe never threatened land, and was absorbed into a low-pressure system on September 24th.
