Hurricane Nate

September 5-10, 2005

POSTED: 1:59 pm MST November 20, 2005
UPDATED: 1:31 am MST November 30, 2005

A very active season continued with a tropical wave that moved off the African Coast on August 30th. A piece of this energy broke off and moved northwest, interacting with a trough of low pressure over Bermuda. The result was a tropical depression forming late on September 5th, about 300 miles southwest of Bermuda. Just 6 hours later, the system strengthened into Tropical Storm Nate.

By the 7th, we were dealing with Hurricane Nate, which briefly threatened the island of Bermuda.

Nate's winds topped out at 90 MPH.

The storm accelerated to the northeast, missing Bermuda, and becoming another strong extratropical storm for the North Atlantic.
