Tornado, Thunderstorm Warnings Keep Weather Spotters Busy

DENVER -- Severe weather kept weather spotters busy Thursday afternoon.7News Meteorologist Jessica Jamison was chasing the storms in Washington County when hail cracked the windshield of the news unit she was in. She was just south of Woodrow, Colo., when the 2- to 3-inch-size hail hit with a vengeance.
"When you start chasing tornadoes and start finding yourself in the center of a big storm like that, it can become pretty frightening pretty quickly," she said afterward.The National Weather Service was keeping a list of storm reports and damage. The reports included hail piling up 2 to 3 inches deep and 6 to 8 inches of water running over the road at 5:14 p.m., about 6 miles southwest of Woodrow.Four-and-a-quarter-inch hail was reported to the National Weather Service 4 miles southeast of Cedar Point in Elbert County at 5:40 p.m. One-inch hail broke windows in Last Chance around 4:30 p.m.Tornado warnings expired for several counties on the eastern plains as the storm cells moved into Kansas Thursday evening.7News Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson said the weather should improve Friday and Saturday.Friday: Partly cloudy and a chance of showers in the afternoon with highs in the 70s to near 80 for the eastern plains, lows around 50. Cooler in the mountains with highs in the mid to the upper 50s and overnight lows in the mid 30s. The western slope will see highs in the upper 60s, lows near 50.Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a chance of rain showers. Highs in the upper 70s. Overnight will be in the lows 50s. The mountains will be in the 60s and in the upper 30s overnight. On the western slope expect highs in the upper 70s, with lows around 50.Stay with 7NEWS.
