Cold Overnight Before Weekend Warm-up

POSTED: 6:46 am MST January 27, 2012
UPDATED: 7:58 pm MST January 27, 2012

The snow has ended with the clouds clearing tonight. Without any cloud cover temperatures will sink, and quickly! Check The Current Conditions Where You Are .

Clouds act like a blanket at night keeping temperatures warmer. Without the clouds overnight temperatures for many of the mountain towns will be well below zero, but teens are forecast along the Front Range. Despite the cold night, a weekend warm-up will start early Saturday.

Sunshine will fill the sky Saturday and a breeze will push highs right back into the 40s. Continued sunshine and occasional wind will warm-up Sunday even more. Many areas on the plains will be in the 50s to close the weekend. Meanwhile, the mountains will have a lot of sun this weekend too with highest temperatures in the 30s. The Snow Left Behind

The latest cold front to roll through Colorado brought a blast of cooler temperatures to the Front Range, but the snowfall was mostly confined to the high country. Many spots in the mountains woke-up Friday to heavy snowfall. Some of the higher totals include:

  • 11 inches: Vail
  • 9 inches: Breckenridge
  • 8 inches: Crested Butte
  • 7 inches: Ski Cooper
  • 6 inches: Winter Park

These heavy snow totals have extended an Avalanche Watch for the high country. Back country hiking and skiing is not recommended according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Both natural and human avalanches will be triggered easily.
