Near Record Heat Tuesday

Fire Weather Watch Issued For Wednesday

UPDATED: 9:31 am MDT September 14, 2010

Colorado's dry pattern could use a real shake up, but very little precipitation is in this week's forecast.

The Front Range will be looking at near-record heat Tuesday afternoon. Denver's high will be 90 degrees, just shy of the record of 92.

Clouds will increase late in the day, but there won't be much moisture to work with. A few isolated storms will develop over the far Eastern Plains and then quickly push out into Kansas and Nebraska.

Winds will be relatively light Tuesday at just 5-15 mph. A cold front will drop in over northern Colorado Wednesday, creating more gusty winds.

A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect Wednesday for the Front Range and the Front Range foothills. Expect highs in the mid 80s with isolated afternoon storms.

The dry weather is not unusual in Colorado at this time of year. September is climatologically one of the driest months for Colorado. This is the month we begin our transition into autumn, with generally dry weather and mild temperatures. Some say September is the best "weather month" of the year for the Centennial State.

Remember to keep your outdoor plants and trees well watered during the dry weather. It is best to do your watering early in the morning or during the evening and avoid watering when it is really hot and dry in the afternoon hours.
