Snow Moves Into Colorado

Skiers And Snowboarders To Rejoice

POSTED: 5:35 am MST December 29, 2009
UPDATED: 3:22 pm MST December 29, 2009

We will continue the last week of 2009 on a fair note, weather-wise.

We are watching a weak storm front that is forecast to clip the state tomorrow and early Thursday. Some light snow can be expected along with another shot of chilly air, but nothing like last week's storm. There is about a 30 percent chance of snow on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

The mountains will pick up some new snow for the holiday weekend, but only a few inches. There are currently WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES in effect through 6 AM Thursday for the central and southwestern mountains, 8 to 12 inches of snow will be possible through Thursday morning, with 4 to 8 inches in the northern mountains.

Denver and the eastern plains will only see clouds and flurries from this storm system. The best chance for snow will be Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

If you are planning to see the fireworks downtown, you'd better bundle up because temperatures will be in the teens and 20s that evening. For New Year's Day, the sun returns with temperatures near 40.

While we get a slight break in the wintry weather, it's a good time to check your vehicle for supplies in case you get stuck in snow. The basic necessities include flashlights and extra batteries, nonperishable food like granola or candy bars, blankets, waterproof clothing, extra wool caps and gloves, snow shovel and an extra ice scraper, an extra battery for your cell phone and drinking water.
