Snow Returns To Front Range, Bigger Storm Saturday

Mountains Are The First To See Snow

POSTED: 7:24 am MST November 12, 2009
UPDATED: 7:15 pm MST November 13, 2009

A band of light to moderate snow is moving out of the metro area tonight and is heading for the eastern plains. A few light snow showers will remain overnight along I-25, but little accumulation is expected by Saturday morning.

The snow will be heavier though tonight in the Front Range foothills with 4-8" possible by Saturday morning. Tomorrow will be much colder with highs only in the mid to upper 30s. Expect mostly cloudy skies through the afternoon.

A much stronger storm will push through Colorado Saturday afternoon and evening. A WINTER STORM WATCH will be in effect for the Front Range, including the Denver area, from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Accumulations will be 6-12" in the metro area and 8-16" in the foothills by Sunday night.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for the northern, central, and southwestern mountains through Sunday. Travel will be extremely difficult at times, especially as the next system swings through Saturday night through Sunday morning. Snow accumulations will be 10-20" with periods of blowing snow.

Warmer and drier weather doesn't return to our forecast until early next week. There may be enough snow on the ground from Sunday's storm to create some problems during Monday morning's commute.

Monday will see some below-normal temperatures, with highs in the 40s. The 50s will return by Wednesday.

Stay tuned to 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel for updates on these storms as they roll through Colorado.
