Record November Warmth On Deck

Brief Cooldown On Wednesday Gives Way To A Warm Weekend

POSTED: 6:36 am MST November 3, 2009
UPDATED: 5:45 pm MST November 3, 2009

The weather pattern will be a very pleasant one across Colorado for the next several days, quite a contrast to last week.

The jetstream will be blowing from the west for the next four to six days and that will keep the weather milder and drier across Colorado. This fast-moving flow aloft is what we call a "zonal flow," as in time zone to time zone. Zonal flow typically swings a few fast-moving, but very weak cold fronts through the region, but brings little in the way of major storms to Colorado.

Temperatures were a bit frosty Tuesday morning and you may have had to scrape your windshield if you parked outside. However, temperatures rebounded nicely into the 60s to near 70 during the afternoon. A weak front will pass through tonight and cause temperatures to drop into the 50s for Wednesday before a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west by Thursday, bringing even warmer weather for the end of the week. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be close to 70 degrees.

As the week progresses, the west to east pattern aloft will serve to block off any really cold air from dropping in from Canada, so the temperatures will be warming up. The weather on this Thursday and Friday should be quite a change from that of last week. Temperatures will be in the 60s, under sunny skies. The mild and dry weather will hold through next weekend, before a storm system finally arrives next Monday with a chance for rain and snow.
