List Of City Water Restrictions For 2003

Are you required to be under a water restriction? Has your town passed new restrictions that you're not aware of? Check our list below before you get fined for not obeying a city ordinance.

This list is constantly being updated as cities pass new regulations. If you don't find your city or town listed below, or have more info to provide, e-mail us at DenNews@TheDenverChannel.com. (Please make sure to write in the name of the utility company which sends you water bills -- this will help us track down information.)

Arvada
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of May 1. Extra day added July 14.
  • Odd addresses water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Even addresses water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Businesses and multi-family units water on Sundays, Tuesday and Friday.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Permit required for installing new sod.
  • For stationary head sprinklers, water maximum of 15 minutes per zone, maximum of 2 hours per address. For moving/rotary sprinkers, maximum of 28 minutes per zone, with maximum of 4 hours per address.
  • Hand watering and drip irrigation of trees and shrubs allowed on watering day only. Flowers and gardens can be watered once a day using drip systems, watering cans, buckets or hand-held hose.
  • Cars can be washed at home on any day but only with a bucket and hose with shut-off nozzle.
  • Fountains and waterfalls can be used as long as they don't spray into the air or fall more than 5 feet.
  • Swimming pools can be filled only once per year.
  • First violation is a warning. Others are $100, $250, $500, shutoff.

    Aurora
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of May 3.
  • Watering allowed twice a week for maximum of two hours per day. Even-numbered homes water Thursday and Sunday, odd-numbered homes water Wednesday and Saturday. Commercial areas, condos, townhomes, apartments, and homeowners association common areas can water on Tuesday and Friday. No one should be watering on Monday, except by permit only.
  • Watering allowed only between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. Trees and shrubs can be watered at any time but only with a hose that has a spray nozzle or deep-root watering mechanism attached.
  • Residents will be allowed to plant new seed or sod after Sept. 1, but must fill out permit. Planting of xeriscape plants, vegetables and flowers is allowed without permit.
  • Residential pools cannot be filled.
  • Car washing allowed but only with a shut-off nozzle and bucket.

    Avon
  • MANDATORY watering restrictions
  • Stage 1: Odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Even-numbered addresses water on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. No watering on Mondays.
  • From June 1 to Sept. 30 (Stage 2), no watering from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Special permits for watering of new lawns and newly planted trees. Swimming pools can be filled only once a year.

    Basalt
  • VOLUNTARY restrictions.
  • Suggests that odd-numbered homes water Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and even-numbered homes water Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. On Monday, residents asked not to water
  • Board meets once month, every third Tuesday, to re-evaluate water needs.
  • Water is provided by Mid-Valley Metropolitan Water and Sanitation District. Call (970) 927-4077 for more info.

    Berthoud
  • MANDATORY Watering restrictions
  • Homes ending with addresses of 1, 2, or 3 water Monday and Thursday. Addresses ending with 4, 5, or 6 water on Tuesday and Friday. Addresses with 7, 8, 9, or 0 water on Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Four hours a day maximum.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Drip irrigation systems or soaker systems exempt from watering schedule.

    Breckenridge
  • VOLUNTARY water restrictions.

    Boulder
  • VOLUNTARY restrictions. Previous mandatory restrictions lifted May 6.
  • City suggests even-numbered water Sunday and Thursday, odd addresses water Wednesday and Saturday and all other addresses water Tuesday and Friday. City would prefer no watering on Mondays
  • Water experts suggest watering between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. and residents are asked to limit lawn watering to 20 minutes per area or sprinkler zone each watering day.

    Brighton
  • MANDATORY restrictions from now until Sept. 2003
  • Residents can water every third day using the circle, diamond, square schedule, which can be accessed on the city's Web site.
  • Water only between 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.
  • No new lawn permits given after May 15.
  • First violation is a warning. Second is a written warning, then $22.50 fine, then a citation and court appearance.

    Broomfield
  • VOLUNTARY restrictions. All mandatory restrictions lifted May 27.
  • Odd-numbered homes advised to water Saturdays and Wednesdays, even-numbered homes water Sundays and Thursdays. Commercial property, mobile homes and multi-family units water Tuesdays and Fridays. No watering preferred on Mondays.
  • Officials prefer maximum of two hours, only between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
  • New seed or sod can be installed.
  • For residential turf areas over 12,000 square feet, an additional hour of watering time is allowed in the new plan, and watering criteria per irrigation zone is restricted by sprinkler head type: 15 minutes per zone for pop-up sprinkler heads, 45 minutes for full rotor heads and 30 minutes for half rotor.
  • Trees and shrubs can be watered at any time with a hose shut-off nozzle.
  • Cars can be washed at home, at any time but only with a bucket.
  • Homeowners with existing swimming pools may fill them once, and maintain the water level.

    Burlington
  • MANDATORY water restrictions in effect from June 1 to Aug. 31. From now to June, you can water at any time.
  • After June, anyone can water between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • If you want to water during the days, you must follow the odd-even watering schedule, where odd-numbered homes water on odd days (June 1, June 3) and even-numbered homes water on even days. Everyone can water July 31.
  • No restrictions on amount of water.
  • First violations is a fine, others are $40 increments

    Carbondale
  • No water restrictions at this time. Runoff will be evaluated in June or July

    Castle Rock
  • MANDATORY water restrictions from May 1 to Sept. 30
  • Operating on the circle-diamond-square shedule as outllined on the the town of Castle Rock's Web site (PDF File).
  • If your address ends in 0, 1, 2 or 3, a square designates your watering days. If your address ends in 4, 5 or 6, a circle designates your watering days. If your address ends in 7, 8 or 9, a diamond designates your watering days.
  • Can water only from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Special permits required for new seed and sod.

    Centennial
  • Eight individual water districts serve Centennial. Call the numbers below to get exact water restrictions.

    Colorado Springs
  • MANDATORY restrictions began April 15.
  • Odd-numbered homes can water on Tuesday and Saturday, even-numbered homes on Wednesday and Sunday. Businesses on Monday and Friday.
  • Watering only for a maximum of 3 hours total, between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m. only.
  • First violation is a warning. Following violations will cost $100, $250, $500. Fines doubled for businesses.

    Commerce City
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of May 1.
  • Odd addresses water on Wednesday and Saturday. Even addresses water on Thursday and Sunday. Mult-family units and commercial businesses water on Tuesday and Friday. Property owned by the city, municipality or utility, water on Mondays.
  • Maximum watering per zone for automatic systems is 8 minutes (pop-up); 22 minutes (rotor). Maximum watering per zone for manual/hand watering systems is 15 minutes. Total maximum time cannot exceed 2 hours.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • No new sod or seed installations.
  • Hand-watering of trees and shrubs encouraged.
  • Cars can be washed at home only using a bucket and sponge/cloth and a hose with a positive shut-off nozzle.
  • Any use of a garden hose requires that the hose be equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle and must be held in the hand at all times.
  • First violation is a warning. Following violations are $100, $250, $500 and flow restrictor. Fines doubled for commercial or multi-family properties.

    Consolidated Mutual Water
  • MANDATORY water restrictions in effect May 1
  • Odd numbered addresses water on Saturday and Wednesday, even-numbered addresses water on Sunday and Thursday. Businesses, apartments and HOA common areas water on Tuesday and Friday. No watering on Mondays.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • 15 minutes max for each water zone.
  • New seed and sod, shrubs and trees can only be watered on watering days.
  • Fountains, waterfalls and ponds may not be operated if water is sprayed into the air.
  • Flowers and vegetables can be watered with a hand-held hose with a shut-off valve or low-volume non-spray irrigation on any day except Monday.
  • Swimming pools can be filled.
  • Cars can be washed at the owner's home on the designated watering day only with a bucket, a hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle.
  • Fines for violating drought restrictions are $250 for the second violation, $500 for the third violation and $1,000.00 for the fourth violation with flow restrictor for additional violations.

    Copper

    Denver
  • MANDATORY water restrictions as of May 1. Additional day added July 14.
  • Even-numbered homes can water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, odd-numbered homes can water on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Businesses, apartment complexes and common areas shared by homeowner associations can water on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • New sod can be watered as needed for up to 14 days. After 14 days, the customer must return to their normal watering schedule of three designated days per week.
  • There is no limit on the number of irrigation zones. Customers can water all zones with the time limit averaged to 15 minutes. (For example, if a person has 6 zones, they can water for a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes (15 min x 6 zones). If a person has 12 zones, they can water for 3 hours.)
  • Trees and shrubs can be watered with a hand-held hose on any day but only between 6 p.m and 10 a.m.
  • Fountains, waterfalls and ponds that have water shooting in the air cannot be operated.
  • Private and community pools can be filled.
  • Cars can be washed at home on any day of the week. Use only a bucket and hose with a shut-off nozzle.
  • Restaurants will only serve water at a customer's request and hotels shall not change sheets more often than every four days for guests staying more than one night.
  • Golf courses, community parks and school playing fields can water on any day, but are subject to a water budget.
  • First violation is a warning. Following fines will be $250, $500, $1,000 and flow restrictor.

    Dillon
  • MANDATORY water restrictions as of April 1
  • Town will be divided into two areas, the north and south sides of Highway 6. If you live on the north side of Highway 6, you can water Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. On the south side of Highway 6, water Wednesday, Friday, Sunday. No watering allowed Mondays.
  • No watering between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • First violation is a warning, second violation is $100, third is $250, fourth is $500, and $1,000 after that.

    Durango
  • VOLUNTARY restrictions.

    Edgewater
  • MANDATORY restrictions exactly like Denver's (listed above)

    East Cherry Creek Valley Water
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of May 3.
  • After June 2, twice-a-week watering allowed. Even-numbered addresses water on Sunday and Thursday, and odd-number addresses on Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Watering of trees and shrubs with hand-held hose permitted at any time.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Adjust your watering cycles to match weather conditions (eight minutes per zone in May, 10 minutes per zone in June). During the hottest days, the maximum time per zone should be no more than 15 minutes for popup heads.
  • Car washing permitted at home with shutoff nozzle.
  • No restrictions on the use of pools and fountains.
  • Watering of new lawns and sod will not be allowed beyond the described schedule.
  • There are currently no restrictions on planting shrubs, trees, vegetables and flower gardens. These may be watered as necessary, as long as there is no turf watering along with it.
  • First violation is a warning, following violations are fines of $100, $250, $500, $1,000 and then a rate surcharge.

    Englewood
  • VOLUNTARY conservation encouraged.
  • Asking residents to comply with Denver Water's watering schedule

    Erie
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of April 22
  • Even numbered homes, and town facilities, parks and schools water on Sundays and Thursdays, Odd-numbered homes water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and multi-unit homes and businesses water on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Watering allowed only between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • No restrictions concerning drip irrigation or hand watering of plants, trees, bushes or flowers.

    Estes Park
  • VOLUNTARY restrictions.

    Evans
  • MANDATORY water restrictions as of April 15.
  • Restrictions are as follows:
    • Once (1) per week from April 15 to May 14, 2003.
      Properties with an even numbered street address are limited to Sundays
      Properties with an odd numbered street address are limited to Saturdays.
    • Twice (2) per week from May 15 to September 14, 2003.
      Properties with an even numbered street address are limited to Sundays and Thursdays.
      Properties with an odd numbered street address are limited to Saturdays and Wednesdays.
    • Once (1) per week from September 14 to October 14, 2003.
      Properties with an even numbered street address are limited to Sundays.
      Properties with an odd numbered street address are limited to Saturdays.
    • From October 15, 2003 to April 14, 2004 no outdoor irrigation of turf areas permitted.
    No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Irrigation of trees, shrubs, or other similar plant materials is permitted on any day
  • Washing any vehicle allowed with a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle
  • Permits being issued for watering new sod and seed. That will expire on June 15
  • First violation is a warning, following violations are $100, $250, $500, $1000.

    Evergreen
  • NO watering restrictions.

    Federal Heights
  • VOLUNTARY water restrictions as of June 1. Previous mandatory restrictions lifted.
  • Even numbered addresses advised to water Tuesday and Friday, and odd-numbered addresses water Monday and Thursday and multi-unit apartment complexes and businesses water Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Special permit required for new landscape installation.
  • You can wash your car but officials prefer that you only do it on your watering day and only with a hand-held hose with shutoff nozzle.
  • Pools and spas can be filled and topped off.
  • Penalties will be assessed for water wasting. (i.e. the washing of impervious surfaces, sidewalks, driveways and homes.) First violation is a warning. Others are $100, $300, $500, and suspension of service. Fines double for commercial property.

    Firestone
  • MANDATORY water restrictions effective from May 8 to Nov. 30, 2003.
  • Even-numbered addresses water on Sundays and Thursday, odd-numbered addresses water Saturdays and Wednesdays.
  • No watering allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • New homes or businesses built after April 24 are allowed one additional day per week of lawn watering. For even numbered addresses that day is Tuesday. For odd addresses, that day is Monday.
  • Warning issued during first violation. Others are fines of $50, $100, $250 and $500.

    Fort Collins
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of April 21.
  • Odd-numbered homes water on Wednesday and Saturday, even-numbered homes on Thursday and Sunday. Businesses and multi-family housing complexes water on Tuesday and Friday.
  • No lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Exemption permits required for a period not to exceed four weeks for new sod or six weeks for new seed from May 1 to Aug. 31; or three weeks for sod and four weeks for seed from Sept. 1 to April 30.
  • You can water trees, shrubs and gardens at any time.
  • Shut-off nozzle and bucket required to wash car at home.
  • First violation is a warning, following violations are fines between $50 and $1,000. Business fines per violation: $250 to $1,000.

    Frederick
  • MANDATORY restrictions as of May 1
  • Even addresses water on Sundays and Thursdays and odd-numbered homes water on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Businesses and residents of multi-family dwellings will be allowed to water on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Warning given for first violation and a $250 penalty for the second. Four-time offenders will have flow "restrictors" installed on their meters, in addition to fines.

    Frisco
  • Call the Frisco Water hotline at (970) 668-3579 for questions or reports of watering violators.
