DENVER -- The end of July may feel more like fall, but you likely haven't had to worry about watering your lawn or receiving a high water bill this summer.Normally by the end of July, you have to throw gallons and gallons of water on your grass to keep it green. This year, Mother Nature is doing all the work."It's very green. I just went to Florida where it's one of the rainiest places in the country and I actually think Colorado looked greener than Florida," said Denver resident Christel Stiver.
This July is now just 0.18 inches away from being one of the top ten wettest July ever in Denver. As of Thursday, the Denver International Airport had recorded 3.53 inches of rain for the month. With all the extra rainfall, homeowners are seeing green in more places than just their lawns."The yards look great, the flowers look great, so the gardening expenses are down," said Denver resident Curt Moran. He said his water bill has also dropped between 10 to 20 percent.Denver Water said most customers are turning their sprinklers off and that residential water usage is down this year.Although usage is down, Denver Water said it will not raise water rates this year. It said the drop in usage will only be one factor it will consider when looking at rates in 2010. It said if rates go up, it will likely be a result of increased costs for providing water instead of the recent wet weather.
