More Storms Expected For Holiday Weekend

DENVER, Co -- It was an extremely wet June and the first week of July doesn't seem to be much different. There will be a chance of storms and showers each afternoon this holiday weekend. There is the threat of more severe weather this afternoon. The eastern plains could see areas of heavy rain, large hail and damaging winds.The storms and showers that moved through on Thursday afternoon brought close to .25 inches of rain to the metro area. Here's a look at some of the most recent rainfall totals:1.17 inches - Red Feather Lakes 1.03 inches - Castle Rock .79 inches - Littleton .65 inches - Colorado Springs .42 inches - Cherry Creek Dam .32 inches - Parker .21 inches - Denver
A stationary front will remain draped over the state through the weekend. Temperatures will also remain about 3 to 5 degrees cooler than average. The 90s and sunshine won't return to our forecast until early next week.June of this year was officially the 2nd wettest in recorded history. Denver International Airport saw thunderstorms 18 days of the month, the normal is 10 days. There were also 15 days of measureable precipitation, 6 days more than normal. The snow season officially ended on June 30th with a total of 38.1 inches of snow. The normal annual snowfall in Denver is 67.1 inches.
