DENVER -- Get set for a rather soggy Fourth of July Holiday across Colorado. A cold front pushed into the state late Wednesday and has now become stationary across central Colorado.Warm and humid air holds to the south of the front, while cooler, but still rather damp air covers the state of Wyoming as well as northeastern Colorado. This front will remain stalled over the region for the next several days and will help to focus thunderstorm activity over Colorado. Some of the storms could bring damaging winds, large hail and very heavy rain during the next couple of afternoons. The storms should be moving through slowly, and that may mean the potential for flooding. The storms will also be vigorous lightning producers.
For the Fourth of July expect temperatures in the low to mid 80s, but your firework shows could be delayed due to afternoon and evening storms. Keep your umbrellas handy as you head outside for your holiday activities!Conditions will not dry out until the beginning of next week. However, it looks as though warmer weather and drier atmospheric conditions will stick around at least until the middle of the week.July is typically the stormiest month of the year in Denver with storms popping up every three days. It's also an extremely warm month with the most consecutive 90-degree days. July 2008 was the third warmest and driest in recorded history for Denver.Be sure to head down to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival this weekend!
