GOLDEN, Colo. -- The city of Golden is planning to provide water to neighboring Arvada for more than 100 acres of recreation fields to keep youth athletic programs alive this spring.
The water is available due to conservation efforts, Golden
spokeswoman Tami Johnson said Monday.
The two cities have submitted an emergency supply plan to the
state engineer's office to divert additional water from Golden to Arvada The water would be delivered to soccer fields after the
plan is approved.
"We believe that this type of cooperative spirit between our
neighbors is essential in maintaining the high quality of life we
enjoy as Colorado residents," said Golden City Council Mayor Chuck
Baroch during a Feb. 6 city council meeting.
A severe drought gripping most of Colorado has forced some
cities to let athletic fields go brown.
The conditions mean that
some recreation leagues will get a late start this year or may be
shut out altogether.
