Strong Storms, Briefly, Sock It To Denver

Several Tornadoes Reported in the Metro Area

It was surely an interesting day in Denver.

The action began at around noon when storms began to fire up west of Fort Collins and the surrounding areas. The first confirmed tornado report came in from south of Dacono at around 1:15 p.m. But that was only the beginning. Several storms moved into downtown Denver, dropping quarter-sized hail and heavy rain.

The storms then moved out into Arapahoe and Elbert counties, where several hail reports and three tornado reports were confirmed.

The most significant weather was a tornado that caused minor and moderate damage to the Southlands Mall area. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.

Showers and storms will continue into this evening, with showers possible overnight.

There is a greater chance for precipitation on Monday with a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day. Highs will be in the upper 60s around the metro area.

The cold front will move east out of the state by Tuesday and temperatures will start to warm back up into the low 70s. Temperatures will remain cooler until the weekend. Saturday's temperatures will sizzle back into the 80s.

The first week of June has been much wetter than typical. Denver International Airport has already seen 1.02 inches of precipitation which is almost 3/4 an inch more than what we usually have. The average amount of precipitation for June is only 1.8 inches. The rain showers Monday will only add to the amount of precipitation we have seen so far.
