Frigid Night Ahead

DENVER -- Cold air and a light breeze will create a chilly night in Colorado. The 24/7 Weather Center is forecasting temperatures to fall near 10-degrees tonight. The frigid night will follow a vigorous snow storm that snarled traffic around the Front Range this morning. The sun came out this afternoon, but temperatures still only managed to hit the mid 20s in downtown Denver. The heaviest snow fell south and west of Denver overnight. This was only about a 10 hour snow event, but long enought to bring some pretty impressive snowfall totals to the area.

Here's a look at some of the most recent snowfall totals:

15 inches - Chatfield Dam, Roxbourough Park
13 inches - Conifer, Genesee, Golden, Littleton
10 inches - Boulder, Evergreen, Eldorado Springs
8.5 inches - Louisville, Ralston Buttes
8 inches - Castle Rock
7 inches - Parker, Highlands Ranch, Lafayette
6 inches - Wheatridge, East Denver
5 inches - Broomfield, Cherry Hills

All of the winter weather advisories and warnings have expired for tonight. We'll see a return to normal on Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s.

The weather pattern is becoming much more active over the western United States for the coming 7-10 days. A stronger winter storm will likely develop next weekend, with the potential for more heavy snow in the mountains and possibly in the Denver area as well.
