Tornado Warning Issued For Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert Counties

Warning Effective Until 5:30 PM

A tornado warning remains in effect until 5:30 p.m. for central Arapahoe, East central Douglas and Northwestern Elbert counties.

At 4:49 p.m. National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a possible weak tornado in open rangeland in southwest Arapahoe County near county roads 137 and 42.

This thunderstorm was a Part of a line of severe thunderstorms producing funnel clouds.

These storms were located along a line extending from 8 miles southwest of country gardens to 4 miles east of Castlewood canyon or along a line extending from 28 miles east of Denver to 31 miles southeast of Denver.

These storms were moving southeast at 13 mph.

Locations remaining in the warning include but are not limited to Strasburg, Ponderosa Park, Kiowa, Franktown, Elizabeth, Elbert Country Gardens and Byers.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.
