Past 2 Months Real Soaker For Denver, Front Range

Precipitation Totals Impressive For April, May

POSTED: 3:55 pm MDT May 30, 2007
UPDATED: 6:46 pm MDT May 30, 2007

April and May brought copious amounts of precipitation to much of the Front Range, including Denver.

Although we expect these months to be fairly wet on average, for some, the two months brought over a half year's worth of precipitation.

One of the wettest regions of the state during April and May was along the Palmer Divide south of Denver. Portions of Douglas and Jefferson counties recorded over 10 inches of precipitation during the period.

Much of the Denver metropolitan area recorded 4 to 8 inches of precipitation, with most of Denver County receiving 6 to 8 inches of moisture.

One of the driest parts of Colorado over the past two months has been along the western slope, where less than an inch of precipitation was recorded near Rifle in Garfield County.

The following two month precipitation totals come from the Community Collaborative Rain and Hail Study, or CoCoRaHS.

If there are no reports where you live, consider becoming a CoCoRaHS volunteer weather spotter.
