DENVER -- No, we are not kidding. More snow is in the long-range extended forecast.Forecast models have been hinting at the possibility for round 4 over Colorado for a few days now, and the reality of it happening looks likely at this point. The Sunday afternoon updates still show high certainty for bitterly cold temperatures and snow later this week.
This means a moderate to high potential for another accumulating snow, starting as early as Thursday, and lasting into the weekend.A strong area of low pressure, currently gaining strength over the Gulf of Alaska, will slide south in the days ahead. If it drops into the Great Basin and cuts off from the main flow of jet stream winds aloft, we could be measuring snow in feet once again across Colorado.Should this storm not drop so far south, we will still see snow, but it would be a more progressive system, like we saw this past Friday. One thing for certain is we are in store for a blast of Alaskan air this week. Temperatures over much of Alaska and western Canada have been running in the 20 to 40 below zero range in recent days. That air will modify somewhat before reaching Colorado, but it will still be frigid. By the coming weekend, Denver and the front range of Colorado could face highs only in the single digits above zero, with lows in the 5 to 15 below zero range.Depending on the timing of clouds, the front, and precipitation, it could be warmer or even colder. As you can see, this is going to be another very tough week for the meteorologists of 7NEWS. We are not trying to cry wolf, but want to be honest with you, and give you plenty of advanced notice as to what may lie in store for the region.Stay with 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com for the latest forecast guidence over the next few days.If you have major travel plans or event plans between Thursday and Sunday, keep abreast of the latest information.Consider bookmarking the weather page of TheDenverChannel.com or making us your home page.
