Shelters Still Open Across Metro Area

DENVER -- The American Red Cross Mile High Chapter continued to operated seven shelters for stranded travelers Thursday, although the number of people needing shelter was dwindling.As of 9:30 a.m., the total shelter population was down to nearly 200 from more than 330 overnight. The Red Cross said the shelters will stay open at the following locations until they are no longer needed:Douglas County Kirk Hall, 500 Fairgrounds Road, Castle Rock, CO Strasburg Strasburg Community Church, 56155 Sunset Avenue, Strasburg, CO Chaparral High School 15655 Brookstone Drive, Parker, CO City Park Recreation Center 10455 Sheridan Blvd, Westminster, CO Alameda High School 1255 Wadsworth, Lakewood, CO Auraria Campus/PE Events Center 1255 10th St., Denver, CO Smoky Hill High School 16100 E. Smoky Hill Rd., Aurora, CO
The Red Cross is also part of a coordinated effort to get more supplies out to DIA. Safeway has donated supplies such as diapers and water and the Red Cross and National Guard will be getting those supplies to the airport.People needing information from the Red Cross should call 1-800-GET-INFO or the local number at 303-722-7474.
