DENVER -- Red Cross Disaster Action teams are preparing possible shelters across Colorado should they be needed to house stranded travelers. If needed, the shelters will be located at Douglas County High School for those who may get stuck in Douglas County.A site will be set up in Silverthorne for those who get caught in the snow in Summit County.
For travelers along Interstate 70 east of the metro area, sites are being prepared at Byers Fire Station and Bennett Community Center.A shelter has been set up at the Sheridan City Park Center at 104th Avenue in Westminster. Shelters have also been set up at Strasburg Community Church and Smoky Hill High School.American Red Cross officials said travelers who must venture out in the snow should remember to bring a blanket, an emergency kit including spare gloves and reflectors, an emergency radio and a shovel.“Aside from the essentials, like a blanket, an emergency radio or flashlight, you'll want to make sure you have food and water in your car because you never know how long you may be stranded if you're stranded,” said Robert Thompson of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross also suggests putting a roadside safety kit in your car if you have to travel.
