UPDATED: 5:55 p.m. EDT April 14, 2004

Electricity was restored early Wednesday to the famed Bellagio hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip, but officials planned a day of testing and preparation before reopening the resort following a crippling power outage.

Hotel officials said the rooms and casino would be ready for a 5 p.m. reopening, although the hotel's posh restaurants won't reopen until Thursday.

The Bellagio's famous water fountain show was also reopening Wednesday.

Workers had to replace thousands of power cables at the luxurious, 3,000 room hotel-casino.

Power had been out at the Bellagio since Sunday because of a mechanical problem.

The power outage forced hotel officials to relocate hundreds of guests.
