Books
My good friend and fellow Vegas expert Mary Herczog is the author of about a bajillion books on the city, but her two best are two of the best-selling books in the industry. Frommer's Las Vegas 2004 has just been published and contains all the latest updates on new restaurants, shows, attractions, hotel reviews and more. It's very in-depth and makes a terrific traveling companion, no matter how often you've visited. The Las Vegas For Dummies Guide is perfect not only for first-time visitor but also for those who think they know everything about Vegas. You'll be surprised how much you can learn by going back to the basics in a book like this. Coffee-table books are a perfect gift for people who are hard to buy for and "Las Vegas -- A Photographic Tour" will enhance just about any coffee table. It's packed with stunning photography chronicling the city's past, present and future. Or if you like the photo idea but want something that will get more use than a book that will sit on the coffee table, you could get the new Las Vegas 2004 Calendar. A whole year of full-color photographs of our favorite city! There are more Vegas themed book ideas in the books section of the Vegas4Visitors.com Store. Music
It's one of the most enduring images of Elvis' storied career -- his amazing comeback concert in Las Vegas. "Elvis -- Live in Person at the International Hotel, Las Vegas" is a must-have for any Elvis fan and is a fascinating piece of Vegas history as well. Nobody could belt a song the way Ethel Merman could and this recording, "Merman in Vegas" is her only commercially available live recording. This performance at the "Fabulous Flamingo" features many of her enduring hits, including "I Got Rhythm" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses." Why limit yourself to just one Vegas classic? With the limited edition "Ultra-Lounge" CD you can get all of the hits from Vegas staples like Wayne Newton, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Vic Damone and more. Groovy, baby. There are more Vegas themed music selections in the music section of the Vegas4Visitors.com Store. DVD/Video
"The Real Las Vegas -- The Complete Story" is a comprehensive documentary about the city from A&E and the History Channel. From the city's rough and tumble beginnings through the mob and Rat Pack eras to its current corporate incarnation, this is one of the most authoritative filmed histories of Vegas ever created. There's a new DVD out that captures a rare live performance from Prince, who is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. This all-out funk and jazz jam was recorded live at the Aladdin with guest appearances by Nikka Costa, Maceo Parker and Sheila E. There are more Vegas themed DVD and Video suggestions in the DVD/video section of the Vegas4Visitors.com Store. Computer Software
"Slots I" and "Slots II" from Masque publishing are the only computer slot machine games that feature slots you will actually recognize. The first volume includes IGT classics like Double Diamond, Wild Cherry, 5 Times Pay and more, while the second volume has Bally Gaming classics like Betty Boop, Black and White Double Jackpot, Flaming 7s, and others. There are more casino style computer programs available in the computer software section of the Vegas4Visitors.com Store.
