DENVER – If you’re driving south of Denver this weekend, you may want to take a detour.

Several roads, ramps and lanes will be closed this weekend along Arapahoe Road as CDOT crews work on final asphalt paving projects in the area.

The closure schedule is as follows:

Friday

Various lane restrictions on westbound and eastbound Arapahoe Road between Yosemite and Dayton streets beginning at 6 p.m. All Arapahoe Road intersections will be restricted to right-in, right-out only turn movements.

Northbound I-25 off-ramp to Arapahoe Road closes at 8 p.m. But, beginning at 6 p.m., only right turns permitted onto eastbound Arapahoe Road.

Southbound I-25 off-ramp to Arapahoe Road closes at 10 p.m. But, beginning at 6 p.m., only right turns permitted onto westbound Arapahoe Road

Saturday

From 4 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 through early Sunday morning, Sept. 24:

  • Both directions of Arapahoe Road will be closed between Yosemite and Dayton streets.
  • All of the I-25/Arapahoe Road Interchange on- and off-ramps.
  • No northbound/southbound through traffic permitted at the Arapahoe Road intersections.

CDOT officials say motorists can expect between 10 to 15-minute delays. Access to businesses will be maintained via local side streets, a CDOT spokesperson said.

Detours

So, what can you do to avoid this traffic nightmare and get to where you need to go? CDOT recommends the following:

  • Access northbound I-25 from Orchard Road and southbound I-25 from Dry Creek Road.
  • Pedestrians should use the south side of Arapahoe Road. Flaggers will be used if necessary.

Why are streets being closed?

CDOT is working on the $66 million Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance (RAMP) project, which is designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic operations and safety on roads. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018.
