LAKEWOOD, Colo. -
A woman died in a head-on crash on Interstate 70 just east of W. Colfax Avenue on Saturday.
Lakewood Police said the report of the accident came in at about 7:39 a.m.
The investigation revealed that a white Dodge Neon was travelling eastbound on I-70 when the driver and sole occupant lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median, and collided head on with a Dodge pickup truck that was travelling westbound.
The driver of the Dodge Neon, a 20-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene. A child in the Dodge truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, largely for precautionary reasons. Other occupants of the Dodge truck suffered minor injuries for which they were treated on scene.
Investigators said they don't believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident, but will await toxicology results before making a final determination.
The name of the deceased driver is not being released, pending notification of relatives by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
While the accident was being investigated, westbound I-70 was closed for about 4 1/2 hours, and eastbound I-70 was also closed briefly.
